There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den wagering is banned. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent spot, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; although, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are allegedly required to cross, there are means around this, as is real of many borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling hall, contains 150 slot machines and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are 150 one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six table games, including eighty seven punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around vacation and hotel complex that highlights numerous conveniences on top of the casino, which offers ten thousand square feet of 130 slots and 88 gaming tables.
